BLM Vernal Field Office Seeks Feedback on Sage-Grouse Habitat Treatments

The BLM Vernal Field Office is seeking public comment on two proposed treatment projects in Greater sage-grouse habitat. The Miners Draw project is located 6 miles east of Jensen and the Augusi Canyon project is 53 miles south of Jensen. Both are proposed in order to reduce hazardous fuels in the sage-grouse habitats. “Both projects will reduce fire frequency and limit large fire growth,” shares Fire Management Officer Chris Deets. “The reduction of the encroaching pinyon/juniper will also improve wildlife habitat.” The treatment is expected to take place between August 31st and December 1st in order to avoid sage grouse brooding and nesting season as well as deer fawning season and elk and deer wintering season.
