The opioid epidemic stretches far and wide and with more distribution of a special drug overdose medication, more lives are being saved. Last week the drug Narcan was used to successfully mitigate a drug overdose in neighboring Sweetwater County. According to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper brought a man into custody from the scene of a crash on I-80 at about 8pm on Saturday. “Not long after his arrival, the man, who Lowell declined to identify, began to show symptoms of a drug overdose, including shaking, trembling, difficulty breathing, heavy sweating, and frothing at the mouth. A Detention Center RN administered a dose of the drug overdose medication, called Narcan,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “The man was transported to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County by ambulance where he was treated and later released.” Over 64,000 opioid and opiate overdose deaths were reported in the U.S. in 2016 alone.
