The Ute Tribe announced Tuesday that a historic agreement has been reached between

the Tribe and the townsite of Myton regarding joint marketing of water in the Uinta

Basin. According to the press release dated May 22nd, the agreement provides that

Myton and the Tribe will jointly market water resources to energy developers in need of

water for oil and gas development activities on and near the Uintah and Ouray

Reservation. “This is the first agreement between the Tribe and Myton to provide for

joint economic development activities,” shares the release. “The Tribe views this

agreement as an indication what can be accomplished when local governments

collaborate with the Tribe and put their shared resources to use.” Together the pair will

actively market water to nearby energy developers in and around the reservation. Myton

Mayor Kathleen Cooper says Myton is excited to work with the Tribe and believes the

agreement will yield economic benefits for the city and improve the greater economy of

the region. Ute Business Committee Chairman Luke Duncan says the agreement

represents more than just a business opportunity. Rather “it shows that the Tribe and its

neighbors can foster constructive economic relationships as we look to the future of

resource development in the region.”
