Pine Ridge Fire Community Meeting: How to Make Your Private Land Fire Wise

by | Jun 1, 2018 | News | 0 comments

If the Pine Ridge Fire is any indication, we may be moving into a dangerous fire season. A meeting scheduled for tonight will not only provide an update on the Pine Ridge Fire and information on campgrounds in Ashley National Forest, but will also offer information on how people can make their private lands fire wise, including how to handle large trees and overgrown areas, among other tips. “This meeting is designed to offer people an opportunity to get information on all things wildfire,” shares BLM representative Kelsey Birchell, who will present at the meeting along with Smokey Bear on how every citizen can be fire smart this summer. “Drought conditions have made our lands very dry and prone to fire. We need to take all precautions to ensure human caused fires do not happen. I will also be discussing fire restrictions,” continues Birchell. “We haven’t gone into restrictions as of today but we are taking it day by day. Our fuel moisture are critically low, so I do believe we will be going into restrictions soon.” All are invited to attend the meeting tonight, June 1st, at 6pm at Remember the Maine Park.
