A painting aimed at capturing the essence of Vernal is being unveiled this week at the Vernal City building. Eric Dowdle is known for his folk art often sold in the form of puzzles but has also received attention for the TV show Painting the Town with Eric Dowdle. In 2017, during the Zions Bank Centennial Celebration of the company’s historic Vernal location, it was announced that Eric Dowdle had been commissioned to do a painting incorporating people and places from around the Basin with the historic “brick-by-mail” building at the center of the painting that would be donated to Vernal City. Zions Bank President and CEO Scott Anderson and Zion’s Eastern Utah Area President Kevin Van Tassell are now ready to present the painting to Vernal City during an unveiling ceremony this Thursday, August 16th, at 10am at the Vernal City Offices. The large-scale painting is 52 by 62 inches in its frame and will hang in the lobby of the Vernal City Hall. The bank’s donation of the painting to Vernal City commemorates the one-hundred-year anniversary of Vernal’s famous “Parcel Post Bank”. All are welcome to attend the unveiling ceremony on Thursday.
