Retired Salt Lake Police Officer Identified as Flaming Gorge Drowning Victim

Sunday’s drowning victim at Flaming Gorge has been identified. Many family and friends are mourning the tragic loss of Mikal Wersland and among those are his Salt Lake area law enforcement family. Wersland retired from the force about a year ago but worked for South Salt Lake Police, Unified Police, and was a SWAT member for many years. The entire law enforcement community is devastated by this news, shares the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office with Sheriff Rosie Rivera offering her condolences to Wersland’s family and friends. Wersland had been swimming in Flaming Gorge Reservoir
on Sunday around 2:00pm
when he was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased. We extend our condolences to those mourning this loss.
