Basin Handlers and their Canines Compete at the 2018 UPOA K-9 Trials

The 2018 Utah Peace Officer’s Association K-9 Trials were held earlier this month and Uintah Basin officers and their canines represented well. 48 teams attended the competition from around the state. Jared Harrison with Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office and his 4-year-old Belgian Malinois Kimber had the best score in the narcotic vehicle search and took 5th place in Agility. Mike Gledhill with the Vernal City Police Department took 3rd place in the Tactical Obedience class and 4th place in the Apprehension class with his 5-year-old German Shepherd Belgian Malinois Kain. Chris Gardenheir with Vernal City Police and his 2-year-old narcotic and patrol K-9 Kratos got the 2nd best Narcotic Vehicle Search score and took 2nd place in Obedience and 3rd place in Agility. Cody Barton with the Vernal Police Department also competed with his 5-year-old Belgian Malinois named Rocco as well as Amy Leishman with Uintah County Sheriff’s Office and her 2-year-old German Shepherd Riddick.
