For those that know young local composer and musician Dante Zubel, the fact that he has once again won a state musical composition contest will be no surprise as they have come to expect as much this time each year. What is new this year, however, is that Dante went above and beyond with three submissions. He doesn’t usually enter each contest, every year, but decided this year to enter all three with “The True Meaning of Christmas Sings” in two categories and “For My Sacrifice” in a third category. “The True Meaning of Christmas Sings” was commissioned by the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus, written for full orchestra and 8-part choir, and was performed during the UBOC Christmas concert last year. The piece won two first place wins at the state competition. His piece “Sacrifice”, written for solo voice and piano, also took a first place win. Congratulations Dante on your continued success and for representing the Uintah Basin so well!
