A young boy in Indiana has a package coming in the mail that the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office hopes will brighten his day. Four months ago, 12-year-old Jeremiah Derks of Kokomo, Indiana was diagnosed with cancer. While the months of treatment and surgeries that have followed haven’t been easy, there is one thing that has provided a boost for he and his family. Jeremiah began collecting patches from Indiana law enforcement agencies with the hope of maybe making a quilt with them. His parents sent out a request on social media for patches to be mailed to Jeremiah for his collection and of course the patches started pouring in from all over the United States and beyond. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office mailed off theirs this week. “When we heard about the young man’s request we were very excited to send a patch, hopefully making his day and keeping his spirits up during these tough times in his life,” shares Sheriff Vance Norton. “We all have had family or friends suffer from this terrible disease and we were just hoping we could give back a little.” Learn more about this young boy’s journey and cause on the ‘Jeremiah’s Journey’ Facebook page.
