In several states there have been cases of children being treated for hepatitis and now there are two Utah children, younger than age 10, that have been treated, as the Utah Department of Health and Human Services reports. State epidemiologist, Leisha Nolen states, “We understand parents may be concerned. Call your child’s healthcare provider if you’re worried about their health or symptoms they may be having.”  Hepatitis is a form of liver inflammation which can lead to severe illness and is rare. While both children were hospitalized with serious liver illness, they have since recovered. Common symptoms of liver inflammation are fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, dark colored urine, light-colored stools, joint pain, and/or yellowing of the skin. Be sure to wash hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, stay home when sick, and keep up to date on all vaccinations.
