Increased Flaming Gorge Releases Now Underway

Increased water releases from Flaming Gorge Reservoir are now underway. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, beginning on May 5th, the daily average release from Flaming Gorge Dam is increased from 850 cubic feet per second or cfs to 1,800 cfs. The average daily release of 1,800 cfs is scheduled to be ongoing. As of May 5th, the Flaming Gorge Reservoir pool elevation is about 6,018 feet, which amounts to 78 percent of live storage capacity. Unregulated inflow volume for the month of April was approximately 66,000 acre-feet or 52 percent of the average April unregulated inflow volume. The May forecast for unregulated inflows into Flaming Gorge for the next three months projects below average conditions. The May water supply forecast of the April through July unregulated inflow volume into Flaming Gorge Reservoir is 550,000 acre-feet (57% of average), which is a moderately dry hydrologic classification.
