Vernal Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Nearing Approval

There’s a lot of moving parts with the Vernal downtown revitalization project. One of the pieces of that puzzle is the establishment of a CRA, or Community Reinvestment Area. A CRA is a way to use future property tax growth as a result of development to help fund projects in downtown now. “This is an economic development tool available by State law and is a great fit for the revitalization of the downtown,” explains a recent update. “The CRA requested the participation of six entities including Uintah School District, County, City, Water Conservancy District, CUP water and Mosquito Abatement District. Five of the six boards have approved their participation with the last district waiting for their next meeting.” The Rural County Economic grant and the CRA are the source of funds for the Downtown Facade Grant for downtown businesses to improve their property’s exterior.
