The next TriCounty Health Department online webinar is coming up this month covering the topic of solid waste and air quality. TriCounty Health Environmental Health Director Darrin Brown explains that when it comes to burning, solid waste is anything that is not vegetation and the burn window is for burning vegetation only. There’s no reason to burn a lot of stuff when you can take it to the landfill for only $5, emphasizes Brown. The health department can take legal action for someone burning things aside from vegetation. They can issue a citation immediately up to $1000 dollars, can take civil action with a fine of up to $25,000 a day, and if that doesn’t stop the issue then criminal charges can be filed. “We love the Uintah Basin and love to live here,” shares Brown. “We want this area to be nice… We see people burning all the time. It’s aggravating to me that we allow our air quality to go down just for the ease of burning stuff.” The webinar on solid waste and air quality will be held on April 21st at 3:00pm.
