‘Do Not Touch Or Move Dead Rabbits’ At Dinosaur National Monument

by | Apr 8, 2022 | News | 0 comments

National Park Service has a clear message to all visitors of Dinosaur National Monument: DO NOT touch or move dead rabbits. In a press release issued on Wednesday, it was detailed that Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV2) has been detected in wild cottontail rabbits in Uintah County and while this virus does not infect humans, other causes of illness and mortality in rabbits can, so it is best to remain cautious and protect yourselves and pets. If visiting the Monument, please notify staff of any dead rabbits so they can dispose of them properly. Be sure to keep your dogs on a leash of 6 feet or less and do not allow dogs to interact with sick or dead rabbits or other wildlife. Domestic rabbit owners in the region should not house their rabbits in any area that they could be in contact with wild rabbits. For more information, visit www.nps.gov/dino
