The historic Zions Bank in downtown Vernal has undergone a major transformation but that is not the end of the makeover taking place on that block. Vernal’s downtown revitalization efforts include a list of projects and the first public project that will soon be under construction is within what is being called the Zions Bank block. “The plans are currently under design and will be reviewed by the City Council and business owners in early April,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “The project is scheduled for construction this summer 2022. The walkway will be at the back of the buildings and include amenities such as street lights, flower pots and patio seating. The parking lot will include 100+ parking stalls including large vehicle parking spots.” This project’s funding comes from a Uintah County Rural Economic grant as well as Vernal City ARPA grant funds and other city funds. Bennion also shares that Zions Bank officials are supportive of the project as the owner of most of the property in question with plans to transfer the property for the public parking lot.
