Wonderful spring conditions are letting the public enjoy the outdoors in the valleys and lower elevations in the Uintah Basin. With this in mind, Ashley National Forest reminds all that this isn’t the case for the forest. Much of the Ashley National Forest remains covered in snow. This is true even in some of the mid-elevations where areas are shaded or on northern exposed slopes. Most roads on the Forest (excluding the area around Flaming Gorge Reservoir) remain closed until the snow has cleared and Forest employees have been able to clear the roads of hazards, such as fallen trees. In addition, driving on roads clear of snow but saturated with moisture causes rutting and will damage the road surface.
