Ashley National Forest has announced that as part of their fire management personnel plan, the Flaming Gorge Ranger District will be conducting prescribed burns between April and June. The plan states that “prescribed fires only occur when a specific set of conditions are met. These conditions include air, soil and vegetation moisture levels, temperatures, wind directions and speeds, smoke dispersal, and expected fire behavior. Fire personnel will ignite the fires using a helicopter and/or hand lighting. Engine, hotshots, and/or hand crews will monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished. Smoke may be visible.” The prescribed burn will be in the “D1 Ponderosa Pine Maintenance and Fuels Reduction Project” area with potential burn units being directly adjacent to State Highway 44 and 191.
