Funds are coming together for the Vernal downtown revitalization efforts. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shared on Thursday that Vernal City officials received word this week that the downtown projects will receive a boost from the federal Community Project Funding. “The downtown projects will receive $1.2M in federal funding,” explains Bennion. “City staff worked through Rep. Blake Moore’s office and submitted the project request in May 2021. The Vernal project made it through the rigorous review process and was selected to receive funding. The funds will be used for improvements to downtown streets, utilities and walkways as shown in the downtown plan. To further the downtown plan, City Council entered a purchase contract for the property on 100 East from Main Street to 100 South.” Following an environmental review and closing on the property, the old laundry building, car storage lot, and mechanic shop will be cleared away and the back portion of the property will be public parking, shares Bennion, while the property along 100 East will be sold to a developer to further the downtown plan.
