As the end of the school year approaches there are some students and families that find it very hard to see it come to an end. This school year, Uintah High School welcomed 5 international exchange students and it has been an overall wonderful experience for all involved. Here are a few highlights of these impressive youth during their time in Vernal. The exchange scholarship winners Jan from Germany, Anya from Ukraine, and Aziza from Kazakhstan did over 250 hours of community service, as well as presentations on their countries to various schools and groups across the Basin. Rita from Portugal enjoyed her experience so much that she’s planning on coming back to Utah to go to college. Issa, the exchange student from France, decided to give the sport of girls wrestling a try though she had never wrestled before and ended up taking 2nd in state against very tough competition! Jan served on Youth City Council, as well as helped at many school activities. All of them helped at the Golden Age Center. Anya and Aziza participated in the Mayor’s Walk and other community events and also helped teachers before and after school with a variety of projects like making copies and decorating rooms. It has been an amazing year and all the students, who are each required to give service, exceeded what was expected.
