An earthquake with an epicenter in the Uinta Mountains near the Wyoming border occurred on Thursday. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was 4.7 magnitude. The University of Utah Seismograph team investigated the earthquake and reported it had a depth of 9.1 miles. It was also noted that this area is not common for earthquakes and was further east than where earthquakes are more common. Last fall was the last time an earthquake of around that size was reported in the larger region. A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was reported in Uintah County on September 10, 2025, with an epicenter a few miles west of Maeser. That quake was noted as odd because it had a depth of 42.5 miles, which is exceptionally deep.
