Watch Next Wednesday for a Total Eclipse of the Moon

A total eclipse of the moon will be visible from northeastern Utah on Wednesday, May 26th. According to Patrick Wiggins, NASA Solar System Ambassador to Utah, night owls and early risers in Utah will be treated to the first total eclipse of the Moon visible in Utah since January of 2019.

After an evaluation, Uintah School District Superintendent Rick Woodford proposed some changes in the District including a shuffle of leadership that will affect the largest schools. Those 8th graders finishing up the school year at Uintah Middle School are in for a special treat as their Principal Christy Nerdin is making the switch with them to the high school as the new Principal there.

DWR Provides Background of the Approaching 32nd Annual Josie Shoot

Locals are familiar with the tradition of the annual Josie Shoot coming up in June but not everyone knows the history behind the event. The DWR shares that in 1988, Utah hunter education instructor Carole Jackson had a vision to encourage women of all ages in the Uintah Basin to use their newly acquired skills in a shooting competition.

COVID-19 Transmission Index (5/20 – 5/26)

Uintah and Duchense County are at the Moderate COVID-19 Transmission Index level while Daggett County remains at the Low level. According to Thursday’s press release, Uintah County’s 7-day average percent positivity was 4 percent and there were 42 cases in the past 14 days, Duchesne County was 5 percent and there were 43 cases, and Daggett County was 14 percent and there were 8 cases.

Uintah High School shared that on Tuesday, May 18th, Uintah High students in the Teaching As A Profession (TAP) program signed letters of intent to become educators. “These 10 young scholars are entering the teaching profession at a critical moment, as enrollment in teacher programs has dropped in recent years, the current teaching force is aging rapidly, and student enrollment is increasing.
