TriCounty Health Department is urging locals to take flu prevention seriously. While it’s been a slower flu season this year, TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis says that the area is now seeing an uptick.

New Mayors and Council Members Sworn In
The transition of public officials has taken place for local cities. Vernal City held their swearing in ceremony of the newly elected officials at noon on Tuesday at Vernal City Hall. Mayor Doug Hammond was sworn in and incumbent council members Bert Clark and Ted Munford were sworn in to continue their service.
Joni Crane Announces Run for Senate District-26
A local woman known for her community involvement has announced her run for Senate District-26. Joni Crane’s announcement came Tuesday morning along with her invitation for campaign support. “Serious contemplation went into this decision,” shares Crane, who explains that she was encouraged to become a candidate after consulting with many friends and associates about Senate 26 issues.

Season 2 for Vernal Theatre: LIVE has continued building on the success of season 1 and announced that 2018 will include additional theatrical offerings to the community. The Secret Garden, which will be the final show of season 2, was announced during their sold out run of The Forgotten Carols in December.
Basin Graduation Rates Above State Average
The Utah State Board of Education released new data in December concerning Utah schools. The state graduation rate for 2017 was 86 percent with 40,100 students receiving their diploma. The rate increased over the last 5 years from 81 percent to 86 percent.
