Commissioners Recognize Bankheads For Contribution to Local Arts

UBOC kicked off their 5th season last weekend with a stellar night of Christmas music and entertainment. As Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. James Bankhead was deeply involved in the concert’s planning and execution, as was his wife Lyn Bankhead who serves as the Master Conductor for the chorus.

Trees For Charity Grand Total Exceeds Quarter of Million Dollars

Many generous hearts came together to help local charities and families in need during the Trees For Charity event held at the Uintah Conference Center. The auction gala, held on November 27th, was record breaking even before the bidding started up with 450 tickets sold for the dinner, a record high.

Union High Construction Includes Upgrades and Additions to Sporting Facilities

A new high school in Roosevelt also means major upgrades and additions to the high school sporting facilities. The new facilities will contain the very best stadiums and courts for the Union Cougar athletes. According to Superintendent David Brotherson, this will include a new turf football field, two new identical gyms, and six new tennis courts.

Equipment Operator Sustains Serious Injury at Craig Station

An equipment operator remains hospitalized after sustaining a serious injury while working at the Craig Station last Thursday. According to a statement from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, the accident took place in the early afternoon when a heavy equipment operator’s leg was injured while working around a train.

$3 Million Dollars Worth of Drugs Seized on I-80 in Just 5 Weeks

While I-80 is considered a major corridor in the United States between the east and west, drug traffickers are likely rethinking their usual route. In the last 5 weeks, the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office out of Rock Springs has seized over $3 million dollars worth of drugs from out of state traffickers passing through.

Semi Fire on Highway 40 in Fort Duchesne

Flames engulfed a semi on Wednesday afternoonon Highway 40 in the Fort Duchesne area. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring, a double tanker semi was traveling eastbound at Mile Marker 121 near the light at Fort Duchesne a little after 3:30pm when an axle came off and the back trailer overturned on the highway.

Utah Highway Patrol has now reported that the semi tanker that caught fire on Highway 40 on Wednesday afternoon was hauling production water, not condensate as previously believed. It was also determined that the accident was caused by equipment failure. 

Give Em’ Health: Winter Driving Preparedness

While the roads haven’t posed too much of an issue yet, local officials are urging preparedness for the winter conditions that are sure to come. According to TriCounty Health Emergency Preparedness Director Rob Grove, it’s important to take caution traveling in severe weather and now is the time to prepare vehicles for winter driving conditions.
