The bodies of three missing Vernal men are believed to have been recovered from the Green River Wednesday. 29-year-old Jacob Douglas Tilt, 33-year-old Robert Alan Spoon, and 33-year-old Jason Ralph Tilt were reported missing on Friday, May 26th after having last been seen Monday, May 22nd.

Sheriff Norton in the Jail and on the Road

When asked what Uintah County is doing to prevent similar fiascos, Sheriff Vance Norton first commended Daggett County on being proactive and expressed confidence in the steps they are taking in the aftermath of their situation.
UBTech Carpentry Project a Hot Commodity
When Lacey Phillips got a look at her son’s carpentry project at UBATC she was immediately interested. Dakota Smuin was taking a Carpentry class from instructor Trent Tomlinson and was among the first of the Uintah High School students to work on the hunting cabin project.
Mack Shaft Fire Nearing Containment; No Threat From Gilsonite
The Mack Shaft Fire east of Bonanza in Uintah County is nearing containment. The fire started on Friday around 5:20pm and is burning on state and private land. SR-21 closed east of Bonanza and Highway 45 was temporarily closed.
Public Hearing Held on Uintah County Certified Tax Rate
The Uintah County Commission meeting was packed on Monday as public comment was taken on the 2017 Certified Tax Rate. The overwhelming feedback from the public was the belief that the Commission should cut the budget and not place further burden on the taxpayers. “These are hard times” was a common statement accompanied by the call for the county to join with business and property owners and cut back in order to make it through.

UBATC Changes Name to UBTech
A change is on its way for the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College. Along with the other technical colleges in the state, the school will undergo a name change and starting July 1st will be known as the Uintah Basin Technical College.
Citizen Academy on for Round Two
After a successful first round earlier this year, the Uintah County Sheriff’s Citizen Academy is gearing up for a second session. The first round of graduates finished in March. The 12 week course was put together for average citizens to get a hands on law enforcement education to provide a better perspective on law enforcement as a profession.
Roosevelt City Committed to Road Maintenance and Improvement
Roosevelt City has outlined their plan for road maintenance and improvement over the next year. Crews will get underway next month lane leveling and chip sealing roads throughout the City. The five-year budget plans to spend about $300,000 dollars per year on street improvements.
Uintah County Jail Nurse Charged for Illegal Distribution of Drugs
A Uintah County Jail nurse has been charged for illegally distributing prescription drugs in the jail. 57-year-old Helen Marie Bemis has been charged with one count of Misdemeanor Unlawful Conduct of Pharmacy Practices and one count of Misdemeanor Possession of a Prescription Drug for any Unlawful Purpose.
