Possession of methamphetamines is taken seriously and one Craig man received a heavy sentence as a result last week. 47-year-old Duane E. Newton entered a guilty plea to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced in Routt County Court to 9 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

NUMBFest 2017 Draws Varied Crowd
NUMBFest 2017 drew a great crowd this year showing growth from the 2016 event. NUMB, standing for the Northeastern Utah Mountain Bikers, hosts the event as their annual fundraiser to support infrastructure and needs of local trails.
Federal Officials Conducting Sex Offender Compliance Checks
United States Marshals have been involved with Sweetwater County detectives in conducting a wide sweep of registered sex offenders over the last week to ensure of compliance. As a result, a felony arrest warrant has been issued for 58-year-old Bruce Leon Harms for failure to register, which is something Harms was convicted of as recently as 2013.
Weekend Events Fill Hotels and Restaurants
It was a busy weekend in the Vernal area with hotels sold out, restaurants packed and visitors enjoying a variety of events. The 7th Annual Basin Bash baseball tournament was a major contributor to the boost bringing in 45 teams from Wyoming, Colorado and the Wasatch Front.
Caution Urged as Releases Increased from Flaming Gorge Dam
Flaming Gorge Reservoir increased releases from the dam into the Green River on Monday and caution is urged. Releases were increased from 6,600 cfs to the maximum capacity of 8,600 cfs where it is expected to remain through the month of June.
Dinah Decorating to Promote Rodeo
It’s never too soon to get excited for the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo and this year will have more reminders around town than usual that the rootin’ tootin’ fun is almost here. Last year was the first year the rodeo committee sponsored a Dinah Dino decorating contest between local businesses.

TriCounty Health Department is urging the community to be part of a group of local volunteers that makes a major difference when emergencies strike the Uintah Basin. The Medical Reserve Corp. was founded by President George W. Bush after the 9/11 terror attacks where thousands of volunteers wanted to help but the logistics became a management nightmare.
New Royalty Crowned in Scholarship Pageant Contests
Pageant attendees crowded Uintah High School on Saturday night for the Miss Uintah and Miss Outstanding Teen scholarship contests. After an evening of intense competition Nikki Webb was crowned the new Miss Outstanding Teen 2017.
Mile Marker 166 Fire Fully Contained
The Mile Marker 166 Fire in eastern Uintah County is fully contained. The Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center confirmed that crews achieved full containment by the end of last week. According to the state fire information website, GPS mapping of the fire shows that the fire was 2423 acres as opposed to the previously reported 900 acres.
