Homicide Investigation on Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation

A homicide investigation is ongoing after the death of a man over the weekend on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. FBI spokeswoman Sandra Barker confirms that a 28-year-old man was killed during the early morning hours on Saturday, August 13th, in the town of Gusher.

A car accident went from bad to worse of Friday night on Highway 40 west of Craig. According to a KRAI report, a Subaru station wagon became engulfed in flames as a result of damage done to the vehicle after hitting a deer.

Plans this week to attack West Nile Virus by air come just in time as there have been more positive tests of West Nile Virus in Uintah County mosquito pools. According to TriCounty Health Representative Jeff Robb, 8 more mosquito pools tested positive for the virus since last week’s trapping in Uintah County including one at the golf course, one in south Jensen, four near Pelican Lake and two in Tridell.

Hunter safety is not just for the youth. The Division of Wildlife Resources is offering safety tips for the upcoming archery hunt that kicks off onAugust 20th. According to DWR Hunter Education Coordinator Kirk Smith, there are reports every year of archery hunters injuring themselves and most accidents are caused by not being safe in tree stands or having arrows out before the hunter is ready to shoot.

Legislation passed last year requires counties to develop and include the Resource Management Plan in their general plans “to be used as a basis for communicating and coordinating with the federal government on land and resource management issues.”

The Utah Field House has something new for patrons to enjoy. After being closed for several weeks, the outdoor displays of the museum have reopened after being remodeled. “We’re excited to have the garden back open after being closed for three weeks,” shares Field House Park Manager Steve Sroka.
