Deer Management Open House

Deer herds in northeastern Utah will be the topic of discussion at an open house hosted locally by the Division of Wildlife Resources. Biologists will be sharing information on how the deer population is doing in each of the units within the region. The community is encouraged to come and learn about the population objectives for each of the units and their habitat conditions. 

Changes for Dinaland Golf Course

The Uintah Recreation District will begin the hunt for a new golf pro at the Dinaland Golf Course this fall. Todd Meyer has served in that position very well since 2007 but has taken a new job opportunity as the Director of Instruction for the PGA at Desert Pines Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Power Upgrade to Duchesne County Fairgrounds

The Duchesne County Fair is right around the corner and the Duchesne County Commission is doing their part to ensure the fairgrounds are up and ready to go. In July, Building and Grounds Director Shane Jenkins explained to the Commission that there is a 200 amp service at the fairgrounds and he presented a bid from Mike Frandsen in the amount of $6,905 dollars to upgrade the power.

 

Outlaw ATV Jamboree Success

The Outlaw ATV Jamboree is being considered a great success. Over 100 vehicles were registered and over double that many participants attended the 3-day event over the weekend in Uintah County. According to Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp, this was the first year of an event with a bright future.

  Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce is prepping to host its next local seminar, this time aimed at business planning for hopeful or existing business owners. “If you have ever had the desire to start a business or just expand your existing business, this seminar is for you,” shares Chamber Director Joel Brown.

Uintah County’s Summer Day Trip

  Isn’t it about time you hit the beach to beat the summer heat? After an extremely successful season, Uintah County’s summer day trips are coming to an end on Wednesday, August 3rd. Day trippers need to meet at the museum at 9:00am prepared with sunscreen, beach towels and whatever you need for you and your kids to enjoy the sand, water and sun at the Steinaker Reservoir beach. There will be tunes courtesy of KLCY and cold drinks compliments of Coca Cola. If you’ve missed out on on the fun, it’s not too late to join the Uintah County day trippers for their season wrap up tomorrow.

Statements on Bear Ears Hearing

Statements were released yesterday by Representative Rob Bishop, Senator Mike Lee and Governor Gary Herbert following the Energy and Natural Resources field hearing on the potential Bears Ears monument designation. “Having been in San Juan County [Thursday], it is more clear than ever to me that the Public Lands Initiative is the will of the people, not a national monument,” says Representative Bishop.

Vernal Man Facing Additional Charges

A Uintah County man being held on 40 charges related to child pornography could face additional charges. According to court documents, a Vernal City Police Detective found that a Vernal resident was sharing and viewing child pornography pictures and videos
