Frustration is clear in a 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on Tuesday which reverses District Judge Bruce Jenkins’ dismissal of the lawsuit that the Ute Tribe had filed against Myton City and even reassigns the jurisdiction dispute to a new judge.

Maeser Fire Substation Urged
A project that could save residents money while increasing public safety was explored during Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. Representatives from the Uintah Fire District attended the meeting as funding was once again explored to see a Maesar Fire Substation become a reality.
Congressman Bishop Hosting Town Hall Meetings
Representative Rob Bishop is making use of the congressional break in Washington D.C. for some one-on-one time with residents in Utah’s 1st congressional district. Congressman Bishop began his series of town hall meetings in Weber County last week and will wrap up his 10 county journey with meetings in all three Uintah Basin counties this Saturday, August 13th.
Sexual Assault at Remember the Maine Park
The investigation is ongoing for a sexual assault incident that occurred at Remember the Maine Park in Dry Fork Canyon late on the night of Sunday, July 26th. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, an adult female was by herself near Ashley Creek when she was attacked from behind by a “tall, dark haired male wearing a red shirt and jeans or khakis.”
Ballard Man Attempts to Hit Sheriff Deputy’s Vehicle
A Ballard man was arrested on Friday, August 5th after attempting to hit a law enforcement vehicle with his own vehicle. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, a Sheriff’s Deputy was attempting to stop a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Charles Samuel Lee at approximately 10:30pmon August 5th in Ballard.
Hunting Opportunities Begin with Hunter Education Course
Youth in the community will have special hunting opportunities this fall but the Division of Wildlife Resources has issued the reminder to get signed up for a hunter education course now before it is too late.
Veterans and Military Appreciation Day
August 13th is the Utah State Parks’ Veterans and Military Appreciation Day with special events locally. A flag raising ceremony will be held at the Steinaker State Park main office on Saturday at 9:00am and all local veterans and members of the military are invited to come enjoy fun at the state park for free that day.
Discovery Elementary Sidewalk Project
Pickup and dropoff at Discovery Elementary in Vernal can be a bit of a nightmare and unfortunately the new sidewalk project expected to help alleviate the chaos will not be constructed in time for the new school year.
