A Vernal man is facing charges after an investigation revealed his relationship with a 12-year-old girl. Text and facebook messages from August through September of 2015 detailed the sexual relationship between 20-year-old Raymond Lane White and the girl.

Battling of Bench Fire Continues

Suppression efforts continue on the Bench Fire in Dinosaur National Monument. There has been no significant growth since Sunday and as of Thursday, the fire remained at about 570 acres. According to Monument Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, the interagency fire crews began demobilizing on Wednesday and the remaining interagency fire resources will monitor the fire through Friday. 

Uintah County Sheriff’s Office on Camper Safety

Summer camping is a must for many locals and visitors to the area. When it comes to leaving campers and property unattended on the mountain, Uintah County Sheriff’s Office reminds folks “to make sure trailers and anything around trailers are well secured. Don’t leave valuables such as generators and firearms on the mountain when returning home.” 

West Nile Continues to Spread

More mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Uintah County. According to TriCounty Health representative Jeramie Tubbs, Uintah County Mosquito Abatement had 4 more mosquito pools test positive for the virus last week; one from the south Jensen trap, two from the Pelican trap and one from the Ouray area.

No Bail for Vernal Man Who Made Bomb Threats

A Vernal man who threatened to use a bomb at a local business is behind bars and being held on no bail. According to the Vernal Police arresting statement, 38-year-old Joel Micah Lyda had gone into a local establishment and told an acquaintance that he was upset about a recent arrest and based on the outcome of that case he was planning to make a bomb in order to “get even”.

Duchesne County Man Charged With Rape

Charges include rape for a Duchesne County man for events that took place on July 2nd with a cohabitant. 21-year-old Dakota Mullins was arrested for a domestic violence event at his home after police received a 911 call from the victim’s sister. 

US-191 Construction Projects

Orange cones and delays are part of summer travel and projects around the Basin are no exception. According to UDOT representative Gemma Puddy, both US-191 projects north of Vernal are on schedule to be complete by mid-August. 

Free Storm Spotter Training

Weather enthusiasts in the Vernal area will finally have their chance to become an official storm spotter for the National Weather Service. Classes have been offered throughout the region but the Vernal class had been unscheduled and delayed throughout the spring and summer. 

Woman Shoots Man in Foot

A middle of the night incident resulted in a non-fatal shooting in Daggett County. According to the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call of shots fired at approximately 1:25am early Tuesday morning.

District Court Dismisses Motion to Disqualify Judge

A Motion to Recuse the judge from presiding over the Ute Tribe versus the State of Utah litigation has been dismissed. On March 7th, the Ute Tribe filed the motion on three assertions; that Judge Bruce S. Jenkins is “biased”, “senile”, and “a Mormon.”  In Court Document 1223 filed on July 25th in the Central Division of the U.S. District Court for the State of Utah, the court concluded that the motion to disqualify Judge Bruce S. Jenkins from presiding in the case is without merit on all three assertions.
