The Uintah Basin Medical Center was on lockdown this morning after a person was seen entering the facility with two rifles. According to Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison, Roosevelt Police were notified by the UBMC ER department that Life Flight personnel in Salt Lake, who had been watching helipad monitors at UBMC, saw a person going into UBMC though the door near the helipad with what appeared to be two rifles. “The person appeared to be trying to conceal the weapons in a laundry cart,” shares Chief Harrison. “Officers responded and UBMC initiated a lockdown of the facility.” Police and UBMC personnel were able to identify the person with the rifles using monitor photos. The identified person was approached and confirmed that rifles were brought into UBMC to show to another employee. “No one was endangered and emergency protocols were followed to ensure the safety of all staff, patrons and the public,” shares Chief Harrison. Kings Peak Elementary School was notified but because the incident was resolved quickly the school did not go into lockdown. “UBMC will review their protocols,” says Chief Harrison, “to see what, if any, adjustments to UBMC and police response may be incorporated to improve response to similar situations.”
