KNEU 1250Thanks to the efforts of local leadership, the Leland Bench project in Uintah County will move forward with a more than affordable funding package from the Community Impact Board. The project originally was awarded a $6 million dollar loan paired with a $9.8 million dollar grant.
The first of two budget reopeners for Vernal City was held during Wednesday’s city council meeting. City Manager Ken Bassett explained that the first reopener comes at this time of the fiscal year so that the city knows exactly where it sits in revenues and expenditures in order to make any adjustments before the end of the fiscal year.
With its new infrastructure, beautiful parks and renovated schools, Uintah County is the envy of communities throughout the country and residents don’t always understand how those blessings came to be. In fact, thanks to the blessing of mineral lease funding, former Commissioner Mike McKee says residents largely don’t know how good we have it here in eastern Utah.

James Hudson Main, Jr. made his first appearance in 8th District Court this week on charges tied to a string of crimes committed last October. Main Jr. faces a long list of charges in Utah and Colorado after a two day crime spree that included kidnapping, assault, and the alleged aggravated murder of his own father.
Governor Herbert is urging Utahns to remember American hero John Glenn who recently passed away. On the heels of President Trump’s proclamation, Governor Herbert ordered the lowering of flags in Utah for the interment of former U.S. Senator John Glenn, calling Glenn an American hero in every sense.
Roosevelt City is doing their part to follow through on helping residents of the Stonegate Subdivision. The subdivision was annexed last year into Roosevelt City as multiple parties have worked together to try and find a solution to the area’s failing septic systems.
An amazing spring continues for the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra as they prep for a special performance this weekend. The organization launched last summer under the leadership of local musician and UBOC principal violist Brad VanFleet.
The Uintah County Commission approved the annual agreement to maintain certain forest service roads. In 2015, the county and forest service entered into an agreement that has to be revisited annually.
A Grand Junction man is being held in Moffat County Jail after a man he fought with died. Bail was originally set at $100,000 dollars for a manslaughter charge for the incident that took place in Craig last week.
Spring runoff continues to flow at an above average pace. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, unregulated inflow into Flaming Gorge Reservoir during the month of February was at 236 percent of average with the current elevation of the reservoir at about 82 percent of live capacity.
Judge Clark McClellan has granted the trial of the three men charged with raping a 9-year-old Uintah County girl to be moved outside the Uintah Basin. In the ruling, Judge McClellan cited the public outcry and widespread knowledge of the case by locals.
