It’s no surprise to learn that seasonal water supply forecasts are looking great following multiple January storms. The Colorado Basin River Forecast Center released a report last week stating that a significant amount of precipitation was received over much of the Upper Colorado River Basin and northern Great Basin during the first half of January. This resulted in “a dramatic increase to both snowpack conditions and water supply forecast guidance in many areas.” Data shows that nearly all areas experienced a minimum of 10 to 20 percent increase to water supply while other areas experienced more than a 50 percent increase. The Duchesne River Basin was among 4 basins listed where the largest increases occurred. Upper Colorado River Basin shows water supply at well above the average April-July runoff. Flaming Gorge specifically is listed as having an increase in water supply from 126 to 156 percent of the average.
