When Uintah Basin Healthcare reached out to elementary schools in Duchesne County School District to offer incentives for healthy fundraisers this year, Centennial Elementary dove in feet first. Led by Principal Bruce Guyman, the students at Centennial participated in a Walk-a-Thon over a week in September after gathering pledges in 25 cent increments up to one dollar. In just 6 days, the students of Centennial Elementary walked more than 5,000 laps or 1,250 miles! One student walked 27 miles, verified by a fit bit, on their own in the week. The school was able to raise $6,019.25 and Uintah Basin Healthcare gave an additional $602 dollars for a total of $6,621.25 raised. “It is enough to support the programs that we provide our students such as our field trips and after school clubs,” shared Principal Guymon. “We will definitely plan on working with Uintah Basin Healthcare in the future to make this an annual tradition for our Centennial Elementary School community.” As an additional incentive, Uintah Basin Healthcare awarded a bike and helmet to the students in each grade who walked the most laps.
