The Utah High School Activities Association Board of Trustees voted Thursday to move all Uintah High School sports and activities from 4A to 5A starting in the 2021 – 2022 school year. The news was announced in a press release from Uintah High Athletics on Thursday.

‘Shop With A Cop’ Brings Joy to Local Kids in Uintah County
On December 12th, 2020 police officers from all around the Uintah Basin participated in the annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event. Vernal PD shared in a press release that “approximately 50 Officers spent their morning shopping at Walmart with approximately 50 children with a dash of social distancing and mask-wearing of course.

Vernal Theatre: LIVE has a dose of Christmas cheer for the entire community to enjoy with their production of ‘White Christmas’ which opened to a thrilled crowd Thursday night. The show, made up of 22 cast members and 18 production team and crew members, is based upon the Paramount Pictures film featuring the classic songs of Irving Berlin.
COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive in Uintah Basin; TriCounty Health Officer on Vaccines
The Fort Duchesne Uintah-Ouray Indian Health Services announced Wednesday that they received the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccinations at their clinic. “We will begin vaccinating Thursday and it will include 10 IHS frontline COVID response employees and 20 Ute Tribal employees that are providing care in the community,” shares their announcement.
Uintah High School Offers a Winter Sport Update
High school winter sports have kicked off and it has been going well. Uintah School District posted to their Facebook some clarifications concerning ticketing procedures. To match UHSAA guidelines only two tickets per participant are available to be purchased through the Uintah High School events page.

UBTech’s Giving Week A Major Success
The Uintah Basin is filled with personal stories of how Uintah Basin Technical College has helped individuals find a way to provide for themselves while sharing their skills. Last week was UBTech Giving Week, an event to raise money for scholarships at UBTech. To put it in perspective, UBTech explained that every $10 donated equals five hours of instruction for a student.
Roosevelt Shop with a Cop Spreads Joy to Duchesne County Youth
The Shop With A Cop program is a charitable cause with a special purpose and local agencies enjoy participating each year. Roosevelt’s Shop With A Cop event was held on Saturday at Stewart’s Marketplace in Roosevelt. Christmas cheer was spread to about 50 children in the community as law enforcement officers and first responders spent their morning making Christmas magic and helping the kids pick out Christmas gifts.
Ouray National Wildlife Refuge Having 16th Annual Bird Count
Ouray National Wildlife Refuge will be holding a Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, December 19th from 8am to 5pm. Counting birds at Christmas time is a nationwide event that has been around for over a hundred years. It was started by ornithologist Frank M. Chapman as a “Christmas Bird Census” to replace what hunters called the Christmas “Side Hunt.”
