Vernal Area Chamber Signs Letter Supporting COVID-19 Liability Protections

Hundreds of Chambers of Commerce and business organizations around the country have united in a cause and the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce is among them. The Vernal Chamber added its name to a Coalition letter addressed to the members of the United States Congress urging them to include liability protections in the next COVID-19 relief package.

It was a great weekend of competition for our high school swim teams. The Union High School swim team turned out great times at their Region meet with the boys taking first overall and the girls coming in second place by a very narrow margin. Duchesne County School District shared their congratulations for the team on social media.

Driver in Fatal Highway 40 Crash Identified

The driver killed over the weekend in a Highway 40 crash has been identified. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the deceased driver has been identified as 54-year-old Robert Hoff of Fort Duchesne. The accident happened on Saturday, January 30th, at approximately 6:19 pm.

Based on the lines and smiles of those hitting the slopes, you could assume the Buckskin Hills Ski and Snow Tubing Hill is a welcome addition to the community and it certainly is for many. There are others, however, that have taken a different stance on the facility and its use of Cares Act funds, some frustrated that their business did not receive funds.

Local Support for HB 166 to Increase Penalties for those who Shoot Livestock

A bill advancing in the Utah Legislature has Uintah Basin support behind it. HB 166 “addresses the treatment and theft of livestock, including livestock guardian dogs and livestock infrastructure.” This means that if the bill is passed, a person who shoots or steals a farmers’ livestock could lose their hunting privileges among other penalties.
