Western Energy Alliance has filed a lawsuit challenging President Biden’s executive order banning oil and natural gas leasing on federal public lands. According to their press release, the complaint challenges Biden’s order as exceeding presidential authority and constituting a violation of the Mineral Leasing Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and the Federal Lands Policy and Management Act.

Cornpeach Pleads Guilty of Stabbing on Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation
The man charged in the 2017 stabbing death of Ute Tribal member, 38-year-old Eli Ray Poowegup, entered a Guilty plea this week in federal court. A Wednesday press release from the Department of Justice US Attorney’s Office shared that 20-year-old Deland Cornpeach of the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Tribe, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of assault on a federal officer in federal court on February 1st.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Collars Wolf
Plans for further reintroduction of wolves to western Colorado continue but in the meantime wildlife officials are focusing on learning more about the wolves since they were discovered in Moffat County. According to a press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, a GPS tracking collar has been placed on a wolf in the northern part of the state.
UBTech Awarded $1.2 Million in Cares Act Grant to Expand Trucking Industry Training
UBTech has been awarded the largest grant in its history. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced last week that the Department’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $1.2 million dollar CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to Uintah Basin Technical College to purchase new equipment to expand the commercial trucking industry training program.

The Presidents of Utah Petroleum Association and the Utah Mining Association made a virtual presentation during Tuesday’s Vernal Chamber luncheon focused on the importance of Oil, Gas & Mining.
