Representative Christine Watkins has decided to draft and sponsor HB 188 in the 2021 Utah Legislature, to make the state stone Honeycomb Calcite, something exclusively unique to the Uintah Basin.

Uintah Basin Healthcare Warns About Toxic Hand Sanitizer
Uintah Basin Healthcare wants the community to know that the FDA has issued a warning for some alcohol based hand sanitizers that were imported from Mexico. These sanitizers were found to have toxic ingredients including methanol. Hand sanitizers are regulated as over-the-counter (non-prescription) drugs by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, so they are consistently tested for safety.

Dinosaur National Monument has received the official certification of dark sky, and they have kept the Uintah Basin knowledgeable about what events to look for in the night sky. The most recent event is the Zodiacal Light. This event is also called “false dawn”.

Uintah Basin Healthcare Vaccination Event This Friday
Uintah Basin Healthcare has announced that they have received another limited shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to assist TriCounty Health in vaccinating those age 70 and older in our community. The vaccination event will be held Friday, February 12th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Uintah Basin Medical Center in Clinic 1.

Family and friends are rallying around a local family as their precious preemie newborn twins are cared for in the NICU. Kimra and Nathan Ross were thrilled last year when they found out they were pregnant after a long process of IVF. During a difficult pregnancy, Kimra was put on bed rest at 22 weeks and spent 9 weeks journeying to Uintah Basin Medical Center for daily IV fluids.

DWR: Ethics Course Required to Gather Shed Antlers
For many in the Basin collecting shed antlers is a fun pastime, sometimes with the whole family. However, late winter and early spring is the toughest time of the year for deer, elk and moose. It is for this reason that the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources requires those that go hunting for sheds to take the Antler Gathering Ethics Course.
COVID Testing to be Available at Walmart and Smiths
Thanks to the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program the COVID-19 vaccination will soon be available at Smiths and Walmart. “Utah has selected Walmart and Smith’s/Kroger to receive the initial doses as part of this program,” shares the announcement on Coronavirus.utah.gov.
