Former Church Leader Accused of Sexual Abuse; Charged in 8th District Court
A former church leader accused of sexual abuse against a minor has been charged in 8th District Court. On September 16th, 63-year-old James Douglas Robinson was charged with 2nd Degree Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse for an alleged incident that took place in June in Duchesne County.
Uintah School District Exploring Schedule Options; Committee Formed
Uintah School District is exploring scheduling options for the district’s secondary schools and a committee has been formed to help in the process. During the Uintah School Board’s meeting on September 8th, Superintendent Woodford presented the board with a plan.
Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department Receives Wildland Fire Engine From BLM
The Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department is better prepared thanks to a generous donation from the Bureau of Land Management Green River District. The BLM has donated a Ford F450 Wildland Fire Engine to the Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department as part of the Rural Fire Readiness program.
Innovation Hub Launches ‘Women Business Owners in the Basin’ Group
The Vernal Innovation Hub continues to offer services to the community and a new group is off to a great start. ‘Women Business Owners of the Basin’ recently held their first meeting and all involved are calling it a success. The group is an affiliate group of Women’s Business Center of Utah and it was organized by the Innovation Hub manager.
DWS Employment Report
The Division of Workforce Services has offered an employment update for the state, including numbers for the Uintah Basin. Utah’s nonfarm payroll employment for August increased about 3.8 percent with the state adding 55,700 jobs since August 2019.
‘Reinforcing American Made Products’ Act Unanimously Passes Senate
The United States Senate unanimously passed Senator Mike Lee’s Reinforcing American-Made Products Act which establishes a national standard for products to be labeled “Made in USA” in interstate commerce. Currently, businesses must navigate conflicting federal and state definitions and regulatory requirements to label products as “Made in USA.”
