Vernal is now home to an elite amateur hockey team with its premier season kicking off this month. The Vernal Oilers will participate in the Western States Hockey League playing teams in the western United States and Canada. As of Wednesday, the Oilers roster included 13 players coming from as far as Moscow, Russia and Fairbanks, Alaska to as close as Colorado and Vernal.
