Never before has the work and sacrifice of nurses been more obvious than during the ongoing pandemic. As such, Uintah Basin Healthcare is encouraging the community to recognize the emergency nurses in the community as a part of Emergency Nurses Week through October 16th.
Sheriffs’ Association Reacts To Disturbing Increase in Crime
Newly released crime data has garnered a big response, with the Utah Sheriffs’ Association sharing a straight forward reaction. In their words, these aren’t just petty low-level crimes; these are some of the worst of the worst. In Utah, property crimes went up by 6.17%, robberies went up 5.78%, vehicle thefts went up 34.89%, and homicides increased a staggering 44.16%.
Rotary Club of Vernal Distributing Free Winter Coats and Apparel on Saturday
The weather has been changing and it is time to get out the cold weather gear. For those running short on coats and other winter apparel for this coming season, Saturday is an opportunity to get coats and other gear. Every year the Rotary Club of Vernal holds a winter coat drive.
Work Underway on SR 87 and Highway 40 Road Construction in Duchesne
Work is underway on an important road project in Duchesne. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the project aims to rehabilitate the asphalt on SR87(Center Street) and a half a mile of Highway 40 in Duchesne in order to extend the life of the road. Crews got to work early this week on the Highway 40 portion, including leveling the lanes, and expect this portion to take up to two weeks to complete.
Mountain Home Road Closure
The road construction season isn’t quite over. Skyview Excavation and Grading Inc. is spreading the word that Mountain Home Road will be closed starting on Monday, October 11th, and running through Friday, November 19th. Travelers are asked to please follow all detour signs.
COVID-19 Transmission Index and Update (10/7-10/13)
As of Thursday, October 7th, TriCounty Health Department reported 7,672 total COVID-19 cases in the tri-county area to date, an increase of 55 new cases from the day before. According to Thursday’s data, there are currently 1,037 active cases which is down from last week, ending the multi-week upward trend and hopefully starting a new trend that will keep heading down.

Dominion Energy announced on Tuesday the sale of Questar Pipelines to Southwest Gas Holdings Inc. The all cash transaction is valued at $1.975 billion dollars and the sale is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021. Senator Winterton Urges Involvement In Redistricting Public Meeting Tomorrow
Area leaders are making a final push to get locals involved in the redistricting process currently underway that has the potential to really hurt representation of the Uintah Basin. Among them is Senator Ron Winterton who is strongly urging citizens of the Uintah Basin to attend the final redistricting public hearing for our area that is taking place tomorrow morning at the Uintah Conference Center.
