There have been plenty of ups and downs in the Uintah Basin economy over the years and one resource that remains committed to serving the community at all times is the Department of Workforce Services.

The Uintah County Commission unanimously approved the mineral lease allocations during a January Commission meeting.

Ashley National Forest administrators presented before the Vernal Chamber of Commerce last week, sharing the extensive process of creating a new Forest Plan. The last Forest Management Plan was created in 1989 and has been amended 24 times over the years since.

After taking care of county business on Monday, the Uintah County Commission meeting turned to a discussion on the national vaccine mandate. Commissioner Bill Stringer expressed his concerns about the growing shortage of medical personnel and what would happen if the vaccine mandate caused an even greater shortage.

TriCounty Health wants the public to be aware of a silent killer. It is estimated that one in three homes in Utah have elevated levels of radon and, sadly, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers and is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S.

It is always devastating to hear that a child has gone missing but thankfully an incident that occurred Sunday evening in Uintah County had a positive conclusion.

Congratulations to both the Uintah girls and boys wrestling teams on winning this weekend’s Tournament of Champions. There were 14 girls teams with Uintah followed by Central-Grand Junction in 2nd, North Sanpete in 3rd, Juab in 4th, and Union in 5th.
