A Uintah County man arrested last week is facing a felony charge of Assault of a Pregnant Person. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer responded to a 9-1–1 call for help on 3500 West in Maeser around 5am on November 13th. While in the area, a third party called dispatch reporting that Sean Whitney and a pregnant woman were seen traveling on 3500 West in a blue passenger car. The officer observed a blue passenger car on the side of 3500 West and approached the vehicle. A male, identified as 30-year-old Sean M. Whitney, was sitting in the driver’s seat and a distraught female was in the passenger seat. Sean was instructed to step out of the vehicle and was asked to explain why his passenger was upset. He refused to answer questions and while being detained began yelling at the female not to tell the officer anything. While Sean was secured in the patrol vehicle, the officer approached the passenger and noted that she had blood on her. She declined to answer questions but did request to be seen by medical professionals because she was 8 ½ months pregnant and was concerned for her unborn child. An ambulance was called and the officer made contact with Sean Whitney’s AP&P agent because it was found that he was on parol on felony sexual abuse and felony aggravated kidnapping charges. Sean Whitney was booked into Uintah County Jail and the female was transported to the hospital. The officer reported in the Affidavit of Probable Cause details of what allegedly led up to the 9-1-1 calls. The pair got into a verbal argument at about 3am which escalated to Sean Whitney holding the victim down to prevent escape. When she had the opportunity to, the victim ran from the home with no coat or shoes and ran down the road and hid in the below freezing temperatures for over an hour. Sean called and told the victim he had left the home. Hoping to grab her stuff and leave, she began making her way toward the home when she saw Sean driving at a high rate of speed towards her. She turned and ran and opened her phone to call 9-1-1. He got out of the car and chased her before pulling her down by her hair causing her to fall backwards and hit the ground. He forced her into the vehicle where he disconnected the call with dispatch and was hitting her before the officer approached. Sean Whitney is being held on No Bail and is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Assault of a Pregnant Person as well as Unlawful Detention and Damaging or Interrupting a Communication Device.
