Update on BTA Funding in Uintah County

Funding for public transit has been an ongoing topic of discussion in Uintah County and was among the topics on the agenda of the most recent City/County meeting. The funding of BTA has been unclear since Proposition 5 failed in Uintah County during the 2017 election with about 41 percent of Uintah County voters casting ballots FOR the transportation tax that would have helped fund the bus transit system and about 59 percent voting against the tax. The gap in funding became especially problematic when the Transportation District Board decided this year to pay $170,000 dollars of the $190,000 dollars needed, requesting that other local entities pay the remaining $20,000 dollars. During last week’s meeting, the joint City/County body voted to request that the Uintah Transportation Special Service District pay the $190,000 dollars required to fund the BTA routes in Uintah County as the full amount is already allocated within the Transportation District’s budget.
