Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond reported last week on highlights within the Uintah Fire District in 2021. Total call volume was down from 2020 with a total of 491 fires. The highest call volume was for brush fires while false fire alarm calls were up from the year before.

According to the most recent data from the Department of Workforce Services, employment in Utah increased by 4.2 percent from one year ago with the economy adding 66,000 jobs since February 2020.

The Uintah County Library continues to serve Uintah County as a robust community center and the data from 2021 proves it. Last year, the library was visited 97,164 times and there were physical checkouts of over 274,000.

A local educator is being recognized for the many years served in a special position focused on student excellence. Kay Baker has served as the Uintah High School Sterling Scholar advisor for 36 years. Baker is retiring at the end of the school year after 39 years of teaching in the Uintah School District.
