West Nile Virus is in the news after a northern Utah resident died from the virus. While there has not been a report of West Nile Virus activity in the Uintah Basin yet, health department officials say it is only a matter of time and all should take precautions now.

SWAT Unites Students In Combating Tobacco Use
TriCounty Health Department is excited for a new school year working with students in the battle against big tobacco. Student leaders from Terra Academy and Manila, Uintah, Union, Altamont, and Tabiona High School were selected to be part of the health department’s youth program after writing essays on what they will do to combat tobacco in their area.

The Division of Wildlife Resources has announced that due to recent rain storms decreasing the wildfire risk for several areas of Utah, the temporary ban on campfires and recreational target shooting with a firearm on most of its wildlife management areas has been removed.

The process of redistricting is underway in Utah and it’s possible this process could harm representation in rural Utah. After gathering public input, the Utah Independent Redistricting Commission will create district maps for the Utah Legislature to consider.
