Thursday Morning Update on Bear Fire Detour Route
Update Thursday Morning: US-6 is closed at milepost 221 and milepost 230. Drivers should use the Emma Park Road/US-191 detour route. There is no estimate when the highway will reopen.
Bear Fire in Carbon County Reaches US-6; Major Source of Smoke in Uintah Basin
Smoke impacts are being seen and felt in the Uintah Basin from a wildfire that is burning in neighboring Carbon County. The Bear Fire, located about 4 miles northwest of Helper, started on Tuesday afternoon near mile marker 228 on Highway 6.
State of Utah Announces Statewide Fire Restriction Order
Effective today, June 10th, the State of Utah has issued a Fire Restriction Order for all state lands and all unincorporated private lands within the state. The order states that “due to current and forecasted weather conditions coupled with the record dry vegetation conditions and extreme fire danger throughout Utah, the State Forester has determined that measures must be taken to prevent the ignition of forest and rangeland fires.”
Earthquake Recorded Near Fruitland; What To Do If You Felt It
A magnitude 3.7 earthquake occurred northeast of Strawberry Reservoir on Wednesday and anyone in the Fruitland area and beyond are asked to fill out a survey if they felt it. According to the report from the University of Utah Seismograph Station, the magnitude 3.7 earthquake occurred at 1:52 PM on June 9th.
Steinaker and Red Fleet State Parks Continue Upgrades
Steinaker and Red Fleet State Parks continue to work on facility upgrades. Amanda White, Park Manager for both locations, provided an update during the Vernal Chamber Luncheon this week. Steinaker State Park is working with Uintah County as they expand OHV camping facilities and access to established trails.
Successful Entrepreneur Earns Uintah High Distinguished Alumni Award
Uintah High School recently announced in a press release that Sam Malouf has been selected as the recipient of the school’s 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award. Malouf graduated from Uintah High in 1998. He and his wife Kacie co-founded Malouf, a bedding and home furnishings provider, in 2003.
Ute Indian Tribe Issues 2021 Fire Restriction Order
The Ute Indian Tribe has implemented fire restrictions for all lands located within the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. The Ute Business Committee made the motion to implement the order on Monday and it is considered in effect until rescinded.
