In the midst of the severe drought, Vernal City is looking for ways to be smart with water use. Recognizing that there is decreasing water availability, Vernal City has made arrangements to use well water from under City Hall to water the flowers on Main Street starting in July.

Deputy Kori Reed Named Duchesne County Employee of the Month
Duchesne County Deputy Kori Reed was honored for his service to Duchesne County and the sheriff's office at this week’s County Commission meeting. The Sheriff’s Office shares that Reed began working for Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office in May of 2019 as a reserve Corrections officer.
Uintah Basin Sheriffs Join in Pledge to Protect Constitutional Rights
Uintah Basin Sheriffs have joined a larger cause that pledges to protect the Second Amendment and other Constitutional rights. The Utah Sheriffs’ Association issued a press release this month which states that the pledge is prompted by increasing public concern to safeguard constitutional rights.
Progress Being Made on Bear Fire; Travelers Reminded to Slow Down
Containment is creeping in the right direction on the Bear Fire in Carbon County. According to the Monday update, the lightning-caused fire reached 14 percent containment and 10,932 acres. “Favorable conditions allowed firefighters to get good work done overnight,” shares the report.

Beware of Scammers Calling From Spoofed Local Numbers
Most people are aware that scammers may pose as local law enforcement but many do not realize that they can actually call from what appears to be local phone numbers. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to be aware and alert.
DWR: What to Do If Encountering a Rattlesnake in Utah
Rattlesnakes are protected under Utah law, making it illegal to harass or kill one. The only exception to this is if you are threatened and defending yourself; otherwise, it is a class B misdemeanor to kill a rattlesnake. The Division of Wildlife Resources offers the following guidelines if you encounter a rattlesnake: Remain calm and do not panic. Stay at least 5 feet from the snake.
Extreme Fire Danger Means Extreme Caution Required
State officials continue to emphasize to all that most of Utah is now in Extreme Fire Danger and so to exercise extreme caution. “When conditions are EXTREME all fires are potentially serious because fires start quickly, spread furiously, and burn intensely,” shares Utah Fire Info.
