Closures and Evacuation Orders for Oil Springs Fire in Rio Blanco County
There have been closures and evacuations ordered due to the Oil Springs Fire in Rio Blanco County. According to the Sunday report, the Oil Springs Fire started on Friday, 20 miles south of Rangely and it was caused by lightning.
Horsecorn Fire on Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation
The Bureau of Indian Affairs Forestry and Wildland Fire-Uintah & Ouray Agency announced Sunday the details of a fire on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. The Horsecorn Fire is approximately 60 miles South/Southwest of Vernal and as of Sunday evening was estimated at 200 to 250 acres.
Vernal Police Chief Responds to Criticism Over Response During ATV Parade
Vernal Police Chief Dylan Rooks issued a press release on June 17th in response to criticism received for police response during the Outlaw Jamboree ATV light parade. Chief Rooks explained that the police department was never informed that a ‘light parade’ was to occur and no event permit was applied for.
Patriotic Field of Flags Returning This Year In Celebrating Independence Day
The Patriotic Field of Flags is returning to the Walking Park this year with even more flags this year. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shares that over 600 flags will be on display. “Celebrate the 4th of July with a walk through the patriot flag display and by honoring our veterans,” encourages Bennion.
Fire Restrictions Implemented in Dinosaur National Monument
Due to current and forecasted weather, along with the hazardous fire potential created by extremely dry conditions, Dinosaur National Monument has implemented Stage I Fire Restrictions that went into effect Friday, June 18th. Restrictions for the monument include prohibition of:
Outlaw Trail’s ‘Hello, Dolly!’ Opens Tomorrow at Western Park Amphitheater
It's time for some Broadway under the stars! Outlaw Trail Theater’s production of ‘Hello, Dolly!’ opens tomorrow at the Western Park Amphitheater and all involved are excited to welcome an audience. The show runs select nights from June 22nd through July 2nd.
Uintah County Moves to High Transmission Index Level (6/17 – 6/23)
As of June 17th, TriCounty Health Department is reporting 217 active cases of COVID-19 so it is not surprising that there has been a change to the Transmission Index. Uintah County has been shifted from Moderate to High Transmission level while Duchesne County stayed at the Moderate level and Daggett County stayed at the Low level.
Ashley Regional Equipment Used to Study Dinosaur Bones
The Utah Field House, more commonly referred to as the Dinosaur Museum, was recently visited by paleontology graduate students from Adelphi University in New York. Stephen Finch and Riley Sombath traveled to Vernal to go over some of the museum's collections for their studies.
Vernal Theatre: Live Announces Full Season 6 Lineup
Vernal Theatre: Live has had five solid years of bringing local talent to the stage. They just recently announced the shows for their sixth season. The season will kick off with ‘Footloose the Musical’ directed by Jay and Molly Haslem and running September 10th through the 18th.
