The Uintah County Library is always providing unique opportunities for local teens and Mural Day, held May 15th, was certainly that. According to a report in the library’s ‘Novel News’, more than two dozen teens gathered to learn techniques and paint murals under the mentorship of local artists Janet Zeeryp and Isaiah Hoppe Zeeryp.

TriCounty Health COVID-19 Update
TriCounty Health Department continues their mission to make available the COVID-19 vaccination to every person in the TriCounty health district that can and wants to get the vaccine. Health Officer Kirk Benge reports that there has been some increase in this corner of the state.
Winners Announced for “Healthy Body/Healthy Mind” Scholarship Competition
Coming off a year like 2020 has been a real challenge, especially for students who experienced a major dose of upheaval all while trying to stay afloat in their classes. Keeping the focus on health and with that in mind, Evans Family Media partnered with USU-Uintah Basin for the “Healthy Body – Healthy Mind” Scholarship competition.
Dr. Gary White Inducted to UBMC Hall of Fame
Imagine working 100 hours a week and being on call 24 hours a day. That was the reality for the small group of doctors serving the Roosevelt community and beyond in the 60’s and 70’s and one of them was inducted to the UBMC Hall of Fame this week. Uintah Basin Healthcare shares that Dr. Gary White joined the hospital in 1968, welcomed by Dr. Terry Buxton and Dr. Frank Madsen.
DWR: Drought Means Higher Chance of Human Bear Encounters
The Utah Department of Wildlife Resources is warning the public that the drought has set up conditions that have decreased the bears food supply and will lead them to find alternate food sources. This means a serious increase in the likelihood of bear encounters.
EMS Week 2021: Caring For Our Communities in the Tri-County Area
May 16th through the 22nd has officially been recognized as EMS Week, a time to honor the service and dedication of the nation’s EMS providers. This year’s theme is “This is EMS: Caring For Our Communities.” Locally, Ashley Regional Medical Center held an EMS/First Responder breakfast on Tuesday while Uintah Basin Healthcare celebrated EMS Week with a Kids Fair at Constitution Park.
Groundbreaking Held for UBH Roosevelt Campus Expansion Project
It was an exciting day for many as Uintah Basin Healthcare broke ground on the expansion project taking place on their Roosevelt campus. In a Monday press release, Uintah Basin Healthcare provided details on the project: “Our Roosevelt Campus expansion will include a 21,000 square foot 3-story tower to expand South from the hospital’s main entrance,” shares UBH.
UDOT Update on Starvation Bridge Construction
The complicated work to repair Starvation Bridge continues and UDOT has shared what the public can expect this week during their travels. “Crews are making progress as they form the new updated parapet wall by pouring concrete over the exposed rebar on the eastbound side of the bridge,” shares UDOT.
Further Details on Roosevelt City Council Vacancy
Further details have been provided concerning the open Roosevelt City Council position. Roosevelt City shares that Councilman Vince Reiley and his family are moving out of Roosevelt, so his seat will be available. Reiley has approximately 2 ½ years left of his term so the Council will appoint someone to fill his seat from June to December.
May is National Wildfire Prevention Awareness Month
It is certainly fitting with current weather conditions to highlight May as National Wildfire Prevention Awareness Month. We are already seeing elevated Fire Danger levels. Since 9 out 10 wildfires are human caused it would behoove us all to be more aware and diligent to the signs and causes.
