Naples’ ‘Lanny the Dinosaur’ Hit by Suspected DUI Driver; Suffers Major Damage

Less than a year ago, ‘Lanny the Dinosaur’ made the roadside park near the Naples City Offices his home, expecting that he would enjoy a long life of greeting travelers on Highway 40. Tragically, Lanny’s hope was cut short after being hit by a suspected DUI driver on the early morning of April 1st. His beautiful but broken triceratops self had to be hauled away and it is unclear if repairs can be performed to allow for Lanny’s return.

COVID-19 Transmission Index (4/1-4/7)

TriCounty Health Department announced that the Transmission Index levels of local counties remained the same from the week before with Uintah and Duchesne County staying at the Moderate Level and Daggett County staying at the Low Level. According to Thursday’s press release, Uintah County’s 7-day average percent positivity was 5 percent and there were 57 cases in the past 14 days.

Governor to Sign Bills in Vernal During ‘Utah Roads School’ Conference

A special event that’s had a few years off is back and taking place in Vernal next week. Now hosted by the Utah Association of Counties, the 2021 Building Utah Conference (also known as ‘Utah Roads School’) will welcome leaders and professionals from all over the state next week including Governor Spencer Cox who will not only speak to this group of professionals but will also perform several ceremonial bill signings.

Uintah Care Center Now Allowing In Person Visits By Appointment

2020 was a difficult year for everyone but it was especially so for the elderly and those in care facilities and residential homes. According to Alicen Hatch, director of operations at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, there have been many happy tears shed as restrictions have loosened and families have been reunited.

Lt. Governor Visits Duchesne High School Vaccine Clinic

Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson made a visit to the Uintah Basin on Wednesday encouraging all to get their COVID-19 vaccination. TriCounty Health had a successful day on Wednesday during their all-day vaccine clinic at Duchesne County High School, distributing the newly arrived single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

If you see that Jones Hole Creek on down to the Green River has turned a strange shade of green there’s no need to worry. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a dye test to determine the stream flow of Jones Hole Creek and the springs that feed into the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery.

Daggett County Commission Exploring Affordable Housing Solutions

The Daggett County Commissioners have had a busy month and provided an update in the April Flaming Gorge Gazette. Within their update the Commissioners shared that exploring housing solutions has been on their to-do list. “As you all know, our housing situation for new employees or residents moving into Daggett County is challenging,” shared the Commissioners.
